France

I have been to France a few times visiting mainly Lyon and Paris. I would love to visit more places in the future.

Paris

Paris is considered one of the most beautiful cities in the world! I've been to Paris twice and I really like the city (although the traffic is very heavy and there are tourists everywhere). Places to visit in Paris:

  • Eiffel Tower: This is THE must-see in Paris. I love to go there at night because the tower is illuminated! You can also walk up (or take the elevator) and have a stunning view over the entire city
  • Notre Dame: (at the moment not possible I guess) one of the most beautiful cathedrals I have ever been to
  • Champs-Elysées Street: Champs-Elysées Street is a super famous big street with lots of big (and exclusive) shops
  • Arc de Triomphe: the Arc de Triomphe is another symbol of Paris located near the Champs-Elysées Street
  • Sacré-Coeur and Montmartre: The Sacré-Coeur is a beautiful white Basilica on a hill in Montmartre which you shouldn’t miss if you are in Paris
  • Museums, like Musée du Louvre or Musée d`Orsay

You can visit almost all the sights by walking (except Montmartre and Sacré-Coeur), but be prepared to walk a lot! I think I never walked as much in my life as on the days we were in Paris.

Lyon

Lyon is one of my favorite cities in France. It's located in the region Rhône-Alpes and it's amazing in summer! Lyon has two rivers and in summer you can have a picnic or chill at the rivers at night. There is also a beautiful parc (Parc de la tête d`Or). The city organizes every year the event: “Tout le monde dehors” (everybody outside) with over 300 free activities. These include concerts, dance evenings, cinema evenings, readings, sports activities, etc. And the best thing is: everything takes place outside! You can spend between 3-5 days in Lyon (especially in summer) and just enjoy the atmosphere :)

Place to visit in Lyon :

  • Notre Dame de Fourvière: a church located on a little hill from which you can see the entire city! (you can take the Metro to get up to the hill)
  • Place Bellecour: a typical French plaza
  • Art Museums, such as Musée des Beaux Arts or Musée des Confluences
  • Fresques: Lyon is very famous for its frescos. There are entire walls with amazing paintings. I think there is a tour you can do only to visit these frescos which are distributed throughout the whole city
  • Traboules: Lyon is also famous for its Traboules in the historical city center (Vieux Lyon). Traboules are little “secret tunnels” between houses. It's so funny to explore them!!!

Reims

Reims is a very nice city located and the Lorraine region. It's famous for its cathedral, where the French kings were crowned for centuries. The cathedral is also part of the UNESCO world heritage since 1991.

Nancy

Nancy is also an amazing city located in the region of Lorraine. You can spend one or two days here and visit famous sites like the neo-gothic Basilique Saint-Epvre, Stanislas place, and the Palais des Ducs de Lorraine. There are also some art museums (Musée de l'Ecole de Nancy, Musée Lorain, Musée des Beaux Arts etc.).
