Celebrations

ลอยกระทง - Loi Krathong

Loi Krathong is the Thai light festival usually happening around November. For this, people make small Khratongs with flowers and lights and put them in the river. They can also contain wishes and be used to thank the Gods. It usually happens in November.

สงกรานต์ - Songkran

Songkran is the Buddhist New Year happening in the middle of April. In Thailand, it is a 3-day festival. People go outside and throw water on each other. There are entire water parties in the streets. They also meet their families and pray at the Buddhist temple.

Food

ผัดไทย - Pad Thai

Pad Thai is the national food of Thailand. It consists of noodles with vegetables, eggs, and tofu. You can also add meat (usually chicken or pork) or shrimp. When I lived in Thailand I used to eat Pad Thai every day.

บะหมี่ and ก๋วยเตี๋ยว - Noodle Dishes

Noodle dishes and noodle soups are very typical in Thailand. For noodles, you can either have บะหมี่ pronounced bami (wheat/

egg noodles) or ก๋วยเตี๋ยว pronounced guidiao (rice noodles). Guidiao are usually served in a soup which is also known as Boat noodles. You can eat noodles with vegetables or meat.

ข้าวผัด - FRIED RICE

Fried Rice with vegetables is one of the main dishes you can find everywhere. You can have it with eggs or meat.

ข้าวผัดกะเพรา - Basil Fried Rice

Basil Fried Rice is rice with vegetables and Thai Basil which has an amazing taste. Similar to normal Fried rice you can eat it with vegetables or meat.

ส้มตำ - Papaya Salad

Papaya Salad is my favourite salad and I used to eat it every day while living in Thailand. It is made from green Papaya (which is not sweet but neutral similar to cabbage) and then you add garlic, onions, tomatoes, green beans, peanuts, and fish sauce. You can also eat it with shrimp, but I prefer the vegetarian version.

แกง - Curry

There are many different kinds of curries in Thailand – green curry, red curry, and Massaman Curry (Muslim curry from the South of Thailand). Most of them are made from vegetables and you can add meat if you want. The side dish for the curry is usually rice.

ข้าวซอย - Kao Soy

Kao Soy is a traditional dish from the North of Thailand. It is also available in Myanmar under the name Ohn No Khao Swe. It is made from noodles in a spicy coconut sauce with vegetables and if you want you can also have it with meat. I love it.

ต้มข่าไก่ - coconut soup

Coconut soup is one of the most delicious foods in Thailand. You can find it in most shops. I like to eat it with vegetables or you can also add meat.

โรตี - Roti

Roti is a sweet dish in Thailand (also available in Malaysia and other countries). It is not an Indian “Roti” – but similar. It is basically like a crepe filled with banana or chocolate or condensed milk.

ข้าวเหนียวมะม่วง - Mango Sticky Rice

Mango sticky rice is another Thai sweat that I love a lot. It is Mango with sticky rice, some toppings, and a sauce made from coconut and condensed milk. I could eat it every day.

Thai Tea

Thai Tea is very popular in Thailand. It is very similar to Myanmar Tea or Indian/Pakistani Tea but it is served cold with a lot of ice because it is always very hot in Thailand. I also used to drink it every day.
