Desi Jewellery is amazing! Mostly it is very colorful and there is so much "bling bling". It took me a long while to get to know the different types of jewelry because there are so many. So let me explain to you the main vocabulary to know:

Jhumkas: most traditional earrings

Sahara: connection between earrings and hair which is not only for beauty but also to help sustain heavy earrings

Choker: necklace around the neck

Mala: long necklace

Bangles: the most typical arm jewelry

Haath Phool: arm jewelry with rings

Kalire: a special form of Bangles especially used for weddings

Payal: anklets usually in silver

Naath: nosering with or without a connection to the hair usually used at weddings

Maang Tikka: hair jewelry used in the middle of the hair

Jhoomar: hair jewelry used on one side of the hair

Mattha Patti: crown or hair band

Parandha: hair jewelry from Punjab for braids

Flower Sets: used especially for weddings
