This quote is so beautiful. It reminds me of the fact, that in the end, everything that remains is our memories. People, money, and things will leave, but our stories will stay with us forever. That's why we should try to build a life on unforgettable stories and memories.
This a very powerful quote - everything begins inside of us. Whatever we wish to see on the outside we have to create first on the inside. If we want a peaceful and tolerant world, we are the ones who have to start this peace and tolerance.
This quote touched my heart when I heard it for the first time in a Podcast. I think when we are born and during our childhood, we take decisions from our hearts. But then things happen and we start to use our heads when we make decisions. That's why a lot of us feel unhappy - we listen to our heads instead of our hearts. I did that too for some time and I am still in the process of going those 18 inches back to my heart.
Every time I am having a bad day I remind myself of this amazing quote. I am a very impatient person who wants to get everything right now. But this is not how it works. Progress is slow but if you are 100% sure that it will work out then keep going because in the end it always will.
I heard this sentence during one of the TED talks of Ash Beckham. I was touched because I felt so recognized in it. For so much time I tried to hide my true self because I was scared that the world wouldn't accept me the way I am - someone who has excellent grades in university and is so interested in science but who likes to twerk and post bikini pictures too. For me, there was always an "either ... or ..." and I couldn't be both. I tried to hide one of those parts. I "kept it in the closet". Then one day I decided I wouldn’t do that any longer. That day I "came out of the closet" and it felt great. Ash says that everybody has their closet and that this is not a place where we should stay. We should have the courage to show our true selves.
A very powerful quote. People like to look outside for the answers but only if we start looking inside we will find them. That's why personal growth is so important in my opinion.
I just love this quote!! I think this has already happened to everyone: you want something so badly and when you get it you don't want it anymore or it doesn't feel like you thought it would feel after getting it. Instead, you are already looking for another goal or another thing. I used to think that this was something bad but actually, it's not. This is the reason that we keep growing and evolving. The important this is to find an equilibrium between being happy with what you already have and working for something bigger.
I totally agree with this sentence. People are capable of doing everything that they can imagine. The most brilliant minds on this planet had a vision and they believed in their vision - somehow they knew that they could do it. That's why they succeeded. Believing in yourself and knowing that you can do it is essential for success.
Very true. Most of us are perfectionists - we don't want to make any mistakes. We prefer not to try because then we never fail. But if we never try, we can never succeed and more importantly we will never know. And actually, failure is the best teacher - we can always learn from our mistakes. That's why it's so important to try and take the risk of making mistakes. I once heard the sentence: "Our glory is not in never falling but in rising every time we fall".
Albert Einstein said: "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results". This is very similar to Jefferson's sentence. You are where you are because of what you do. If you want different results in your life, you have to change your activities, your habits, your thoughts etc.
I think this quote highlights the importance of education. If we educate people while they are still young they won't make problems once they are adults. Adults' minds are already formed therefore I have always thought that if you want to change something in society you have to start with children.
I think Oprah is very right when she says this. Limitations are just inside of our heads. We get what we think we deserve to get and especially what we dare to dream of. Again, it’s the power of your mind that gets you anywhere.
I LOVE this quote! For me, this quote means that while we live on Earth, we are all here to come together and help each other until we all go back to the place where we come from.
I once read this sentence: “Change is difficult. But maybe it's more difficult to stay where you are unhappy.” And I think it's very true. At some point in our lives, we outgrow our old selves and are ready for something more, something bigger.
Most of us (some more, some less) have grown up in a society where being feminine has a negative connotation. “Don’t be too revealing, don’t smile too much, people won’t take you seriously.” I used to think a lot about this: “Can I post this bikini picture? Can I wear this skirt for work? What will they think?” But at one point I just got tired. If someone has any problem with my femininity or my body, it's not my problem. So, I decided to wear and post whatever I like without excusing myself for it.
This quote is so true. Education might cost people something in the short-term (time and money) but the cost of no education is much higher in the long-term.
Steve Jobs saying it as it is: It's impossible that everyone on earth likes you. And as more you talk about uncomfortable subjects (a leader's job) as more people will be against you. The alternative is to remain silent and for me, this isn’t an alternative anymore. I prefer being disliked by people when I say something than staying silent with the wish of having spoken up for what I believe in.
This quote made me think a lot. Most people are interested in the fast outcome of something. They don’t ask or think about what it took to get there. They don’t want the effort or work; they just want the result.
I have made the experience that this is very true. If you really want something and work hard to get it you will get it in the end. It might take some time but from my experience, the universe never lets you down unless something even better is waiting for you.
I agree with this sentence. It's always easy to point fingers at others. But it's very difficult to reflect on your own behavior and mistakes. There is this story in the bible when some people come to Jesus with a woman who has cheated on her husband. At that time the penalty for cheating was stoning to death, and these people wanted to stone her. Jesus told them: “The one amongst you who has never sinned should throw the first stone”. And none of them did.
I really like this sentence. I think being humble and staying on the ground is the most important thing. I also believe that all great and amazing people (who know how good they are) don’t need to treat other people badly or show off.
One of my favorite quotes. It means that we should always be open-minded to new opinions, perspectives, and leanings. This is something that I always try to do while meeting new people and traveling to new places. I try to think that I am a stranger who knows nothing about places, people, or religions and let other people explain. I have learned so much this way in my life. Sokrates also said: “The intelligent man learns from everyone. The average man learns from experience. And the stupid one thinks that he already knows everything”
When I read this sentence for the first time, I had to think about it for a long time. Then I realized that it's totally true – all people or movements that have changed the world started with very few people (sometimes even one person) demanding change.
This sentence is part of Amanda Gorman's poem which she recited at the inauguration of US-president Biden. It reminds me of Gandhi's sentence: “Be the change to wish to see in the world”
I love this quote! I think that if you have a dream, you can create a better future. And again, it's your mindset that helps you get there. There is another sentence from Friedrich Nietzsche which is similar: “Those whose why is strong enough can bear almost every how”.
I heard this sentence in a TED talk with the title “The Muslim on the Airplane”. The woman was talking about how people in the USA are afraid when they see her (a Muslim who wears a Hijab) on the plane. She always tries to start a conversation and tell her story. I was really inspired by this TED talk. I have always thought that all kind of discrimination or hate against people (because of color, gender, sexual orientation, religion, class, etc.) comes from non-education. The best way to educate people in this manner is to make them meet. Once you have met people you have a prejudice against, you will see that they are just normal people as anyone else.
Our mind has some kind of negativity bias which means that we often imagine negative situations more frequently than positive ones. That’s why many people always think about the worst possible outcome. When I do this, I try to stop myself and think about the best possible outcome. It has helped me a lot.
This sentence can be translated as: “How brave you look trembling with fear but risking to live it”. We all are scared of something, and it takes so much courage to jump even if you are scared. That’s why I like this quote so much.
Each idea has its time. Sometimes humanity isn’t ready for certain things yet. I think about this a lot, especially when I read biographies of people who lived 300 or 500 years ago and had such an amazing mindset. I always think that they were “too advanced” for the time they were living it. But once humanity is ready for an idea, nothing can stop it.
This quote is amazing! When we try to fit into society doing what is expected from us and what everyone else does instead of doing what we are really passionate about we will never know how far we could have come, or how much more is inside of us.
This sentence is very true. Only hurt people hurt other people in order to “pass the pain onto someone else”. This means two things:
This quote has inspired me so much that I printed it and put it on my wardrobe. Sometimes when I do something or want to speak up about something I am very scared of how other people might react. Then I remember that I am in my comfort zone which I don’t want to leave. But we can only learn and grow outside of our comfort zones. Speaking up is courageous and even if I might get some uncomfortable reactions – that’s the price I am willing to pay.
This Mexican saying explains that if it’s meant to be then it will be even if you try to stop it, but if it’s not meant to be then it won’t happen no matter how hard you try. I believe in destiny and that’s why I really like this saying.
This sentence has accompanied me all my life. I think it's the first quote ever that touched me when I was around 8 years old. I was in primary and used to have a little book where all my teachers and classmates could write or paint something for me so that I would remember them once I get old. I was passing this book around the class and one boy wrote this sentence inside of it. When I read it something inside of me happened and I understood that I always want to be a living fish swimming against the flow.
This quote is very inspiring. I think that all people who have changed something in our world are people that have seen something that wasn’t there before and have worked towards it. Instead of complaining about the situation as it is, you can always change something.
I really like this quote. It reminds me of one of Jesus' teachings: “If someone hits you in your face, don’t hit back. Instead, show the person the other side of your face.” Hate can't be beaten by hate. Hate can only be beaten by love and compassion.
This quote by Nelson Mandela who took it from a poem by Marianne Williamson is very inspiring. In our society, it’s something bad to speak about your successes because many people are very envious. That’s why a lot of people remain silent about their talents. But that’s very sad. I think Mandela is right when he says that instead of hiding out talents and successes we should share them with others to inspire them.
This sentence talks about criticism ad gossip. When someone says something negative about you don’t take it personally. It has nothing to do with you and everything to do with the other person. On the other hand, you can also challenge yourself. When you criticize someone or something it has more to do with you than with the other person and situation. You can try to find out what lies behind your negative attitude. It’s a very interesting perspective.
I heard this quote in Laura Malina Seiler’s TED talk about forgiveness. When we are angry because of something that happened in the past we are actually saying that it shouldn’t have happened. Therefore we wish that the past would have been better than it was. But unfortunately, we can't change our past. Forgiveness is the only solution. Forgiveness is accepting the past as it was.
